Call for Papers
The Second International Conference on Religion and Media invites proposals for papers. The conference will be open to a wide spectrum of issues divided into two main areas as below:
First Area: Religion and Media* Communication
1) Religion and Media Theories

- Religion and media, from convergence to divergence
- Media, religion and the sources of belief and knowledge
- Language of the media and language of the religion
2) Religion and Media Functions
- Religion and education in the media
- Religion and news in the media

- Religion and different types of media programs (series, news, talk shows, documentaries …)
3) Religion, Media and Cultural Studies
- Media, religion, individual and social identity

- Media, religion and culture of consumption
4) Religion, Media and Globalization
- Media and global religion
- Media, religion and global peace
- Media, religion and the future of the world

Second Area: Religion in the Media
1) Media and virtual religion

- The nature of “the sacred” in the media

4) Case studies
- Case study of religious channels like GOD TV, Islam Channel …
- Case study of (TV or radio) serials and movies with religious themes
- Case study of (TV or radio) programs related to religious occasions
*Note: Please remember that, in all these issues, our emphasis is on Television and Radio as the most popular and influential media in most societies.
Paper proposals should be submitted by June 15, 2008. They should be no longer than250 words, and should include the following information:
- Title
- Name(s), title(s), institutional affiliation and address(es) of authors
- Abstract
Papers must be in English or Farsi and proposals should be sent as an attachment in rtf or pdf format along with CV, to . A committee will evaluate proposals, and applicants will be notified of their status by the end of June. Full papers of accepted proposals should be submitted by September 30, 2008. There are no styles or formatting requirements but we ask that you limit your papers to a maximum of 30 pages.
All presenters must register and deadline for registration is August 30, 2008.
